So here we are in 2023. I think we can all agree that 2022 was quite the journey.
2023 is here and I feel cautiously optimistic. Yes, it will be different than our previous year but how? We all have memories of lockdowns, masks and our attempts to return to normal. 2022 snuck out the back door but not before kicking me in the butt with a bout of Covid so I am not sad to see it go.
There was a quote I came across from speaker, educator and specialist in high-stress workplaces, Francoise Mathieu who gave me my favourite quote of the year. In one of her articles on burnout she said “no amount of kale and yoga is going to fix things overnight.” We have trudged through this past year feeling tired, exhausted and a bit cynical. Her statement is so on the money, there really is no quick fix.
2023 is the year that we all figure out what is important for us. It is the year that we decide what matters and what we are going to do about it. The collective trauma of a pandemic has changed us. The language I hear from clients tells me that many are looking for connection, balance, time, fun and fulfillment. How we get those needs met is so individual.
Instead of resolutions perhaps just think about what you enjoy and intentionally add more of it into your life. Consider making it a goal to do one thing each month that brings you joy. I have already loaded up my January with a comedy night, dinner with friends and an overnight with hubby. I signed up for a challenge I have been wanting to do and I am protecting my free time fiercely so I have energy left to give others. Living life with intention is how I plan to walk into 2023. What is your plan?!
